Newport Beach Community Info
Since its incorporation with only 206 citizens in 1906, Newport Beach has been a city of wonder. At that time, Pacific Electric Railway connected Newport Beach by track to downtown Los Angeles resulting in its growth as a community. Currently Newport Beach houses a population of just over 86,000 living in many several smaller community “villages” – Balboa Peninsula, Lido Marina Village, Mariner’s Mile, Balboa Island, Corona Del Mar, Newport Center, Newport Coast, and the 8 Islands of Newport Harbor.
Beach life and cultural events are prevalent in Newport Beach and the City Arts Commission sponsors free events, such as Shakespeare by the Sea and Concerts in the Parks. From art walks to sharing sunsets and sailing to whale watching, Newport Beach offers something for everyone. In February 2010, Portfolio.com ranked Newport Beach as the richest city in the United States.
