Laguna Beach Community Info

Laguna Beach, called Lagonas (lake) by local Indians, in the 1800s, is an artistic beach community surrounded by a delightful mix of canyons, coastal hillsides, and sandy beaches. Laguna Beach is also well-known for amazing art festivals, including the fantastic Pageant of the Masters “living pictures” show (since 1932), which attracts millions of visitors each summer. The beauty of this community resulted in it being named, in 2008, one of the Top Ten Sexiest Beaches in America by ForbesTraveler.com and one of the Top 3 Cleanest Beaches in America by the National Resources Defense Council. With humble beginnings in 1903 and a population of less than 300, Laguna Beach has developed into an extremely popular tourist destination and now has a population of over 23,000. Laguna Beach has two elementary schools, one middle school, and one high school.
