Irvine Community Info
Irvine, located in the heart of Orange County, is one of the largest planned urban communities in the U.S., covering over 65 square miles. In 2008, the US Census Bureau listed Irvine as the 98th largest city in the nation, with over 212,000 residents currently. From 2004-2008, Irvine was rated as the Safest Big City in America. That being said, Irvine offers much in the way of dining and entertainment at the Irvine Spectrum, complete with IMAX theater and 100-foot ferris wheel. Free outdoor concerts are held in the summer at the Orange County Great Park and hiking trails are available at Bommer Canyon Trails. Families enjoy the playacting at the Pretend City Children’s Museum and shopping at the Farmer’s Market, held on Saturdays. In October, Irvine hosts the Irvine Global Village Festival to celebrate cultural diversity. Nationally-recognized Irvine Unified School District is comprised of twenty-two public elementary schools, five middle schools, and four high schools. Four college campuses are also located in Irvine.
